This Sacred Space has been made available to you for silent contemplation and as a point of focus for your innermost thoughts. Focus on the candle on our altar, sending out thoughts for that which you most desire. You may then light the candle, sending these thoughts outward, as a request to the Universe. You may also wish to light a candle in memory of a loved one, on a special anniversary or just because this person is in your thoughts. Focus your mind on your loved one, sending out your love and special message to them as you light the candle. The practise of lighting votive candles has been passed down over many thousands of years and is a popular feature of many religions. It is practised by Hindus, Jews, Moslems, Buddhists, Christians and Pagans. It is generally believed that ‘light’ symbolises ‘good’ and that it dispels ‘darkness’ or ‘evil’. It is thought that the light and smoke of the candle will carry your thoughts and prayers out into the ether and ultimately into the presence of the Divine. The act of lighting a candle is in itself very powerful and positive, concentrating the mind and enabling you to communicate your heart’s desire more effectively. Often, prayers offered and requests made at this time are answered.
